Here is another image of the ehru player. As I had mentioned before, he preferred to remain anonymous, and so I shall not be quoting his name. Very soon he got used to the camera angles and knew how to “look up” to the lens.

He did not want to be named, so I will go with the anonymous. He plays an oriental 2 stringed instrument called the Ehru. The Chinese have played and perfected this instrument from as early as 100 B.C. Played much like the violin, the Ehru however has a unique construction. The sound-box used to be made of serpent skin in its original construction, which gave the instrument its distinctive color.

I wrote about Chen Wei sometime back – he is one of the saxophone players who spends the evenings and after work hours playing at various corners of San Francisco.
Chen works at a restaurant during the day to keep the living. The evenings and night are mostly spent playing the saxophone. He does it mainly to keep the art alive in him and it also helps if people donate some money. But boy! you should see how he pours his heart and soul …
