Musicnation.Com – copycat & desperate to survive?

I have had my pictures copied by many people. Most of them had either the courtesy to either let me know or to refer to my post. I was really shocked & rather insulted when http://musicnation.com/ (MusicNation), thought it wise to send me a link of a place where they have just renamed one of my images.

To add to the whole act of a desperate crook, they even went ahead and wrote obnoxious statement on Craig. No wonder they had no reference to what they were writing. Here is a link to Craig’s image on the post on Music Nation – http://mnmedia.musicnation.com/Blog/2008/080124/oldmanclarinet.jpg

I could think of the people behind this website of Musicnation.com to be no less than cheap and have no respect for either the music or the musician. Here is the post I am referring to – http://musicnation.musicnation.com/blog/2008/02/street-musicians-part-ii & the last image on that post is that of Craig.

They don’t realize that we could easily make a watermark on these images. However, we do not do that so that the readers get to see the image at its best!

Tahoe in Summer

While Tahoe (Lake Tahoe) is famous more for its ski slopes and winter festivals, summer time provides some excellent photo opportunities too. I am slowly putting the journal in place and it will show up in photoduniya with all the photo locations.

South Lake Tahoe near Heavenly

Summer turns Lake Tahoe into a giant water theme park. There are several places on the south and the west rims that has water sports facilities, hot air ballooning and peaceful steam boat rides.

Enroute Eagle Falls

Heavenly by itself provides ample opportunities to photograph local shops, enthusiastic shoppers and roadside signs. Do carry a long lens too since you will find plenty of wood chirpers and wood peckers when you wander into the woods.

Canoe Renting Shop in South Lake Tahoe

In the image above, you could see a faint trail of the ski area behind on Heavenly. There were still snow over 7000 feet on Tahoe at this time of the year, although the melting snow did create the many waterfalls roar & the streams take to life.

Scala to be discontinued?

For those who have used Scala, whether for photo journalism, portraits or even for landscape images, would be disappointed now that Agfa may not ever produce any more Scala. The film was favored by many for its sharpness, contrast and its ability to shoot at 200 ASA as good as in 800 ASA. You could push it to 1200 ASA too with negligible grains!

When BH Photo started showing “Out of Stock” on Scala for over 2 months now, I wrote to Agfa only to hear that they would ship the remaining stock to their preferred partner in USA in Santa Ana – Foto Fiesta.

The Scala processing has been a proprietary to Agfa and only a few laboratories have the ability to process them. However, labs like DR-5 and Duggal’s of NYC will continue to process Scala in their labs, though their rates could change now.

Wave surfing is a popular sports and there is no dearth of enthusiasts of all ages. I have had numerous shots on my Velvia™ but now that I have a digital kid, I can readily post some of them here. And this was from the first couple of days of buying the D200 while I was testing the Nikon 80-400 VR™ with the Kenko 300 PRO DG 1.4™. The VR worked great, the focus lock was desperately accurate with no hunting, the saturating was stunning without a polarizer or even a 81A.

I do not like the idea of sitting on the laptop and manipulating an image for hours tweaking the saturation or the sharpness – I prefer to spend that time on the field instead! So this camera is not only getting me the images, it’s also allowing me to spend time with my camera.

I will keep posting some of these shots, and should you know the person whose image is displayed, please let me know. I shall be more than happy to send him/her a copy.

Slowly I am scanning the 300 plus images I shot at the esplanade in San Francisco of the young skating enthusiasts and I am finding that I have more of them that I could post! The hour long I spent was worth sweating in the sun with a 10 pounds camera sitting on my palm! And this was my day 2 with the D200 and I was trying out the 80 – 400 f/5.6 VR with the 1.4x converter on. That is a massive 840 mm! This was a way long for the 300 feet stretch of skating arena and way too heavy to handhold.

The lens, as always works wonders on fast action! The colors are immaculate. I am shooting JPEGs for now and I do not retouch, except when I have to desaturate for a monochrome copy. The focus was extremely fast while the DoF was way too high as you could make out from the series of images I have posted so far.

With the sun bright and spring once again back to California, the roads are now seeing an increasing number of convertible and sports cars. The fascinating ones are those that are custom made. This one, in bright yellow color, was spotted in Fremont, California today – a custom built Chevy!

This image is from my test shots on my D200. While I spent an hour with these amazing group of youngsters while they were engrossed in perfecting their art of skating on the Embarcadero promenade. It was 1:00 PM and the sun was bright with the temperature shooting over 75F, but the sweating heat did less to stop these young enthusiasts from trying their acrobats – something worth ranting!
